Project Overview

Working for LSP, Cornerstone was appointed to refurbish the sixth form toilet areas at Churchill Academy & Sixth Form in North Somerset. Our package covered the boys', girls' and accessible WCs, stripping out the tired existing facilities and handing back three clean, modern and hard-wearing washrooms for the sixth form students.

The Brief

The school needed sixth form toilets that looked smart, stood up to heavy daily use and were easy to keep clean. The brief was a full refurbishment of all three areas, with hygienic wall finishes, durable flooring, new cubicles, sanitaryware and basins, delivered quickly so the facilities were back in use for the new term.

The Challenge

The works had to be completed in a three-week window during the school summer holidays, with every stage from strip-out to final fit-out squeezed into a short programme and no room for it to run into term time. Working in toilet areas meant the drainage, water supplies and wall and floor finishes all had to be got right first time, with three separate washrooms progressing side by side.

We stripped out all three areas at the start so the plumbing could be run without delay, followed closely by the hygienic wall cladding and new floor. The cubicles, vanity units, trough basins and sanitaryware were ordered well ahead and lined up for delivery, so each trade followed straight on from the last and the toilets were handed back ready for students returning in September.
